Child Loc8or

James has always been the kind of kid who didn't care if he got too far away from us. When he learned to crawl he never looked back to see if we were still there, instead as soon as he turned the corner he took off trying to get as far as he could before Mom or Dad came to stop him. Several months ago Doug and I were cleaning the garage. James was playing outside. When James plays outside he does not stay in one area so it is very difficult to get anything done when James is outside. Doug said it would be awesome if we could put a proximity sensor on him that would start beeping if he got too far away. I agreed and started search for something like that online. I found several things ranging from $20 to $200. So we decided to get one. About a month later we had done
nothing about it and went down to Logan to spend time with family for mothers day. We were at a park and James headed off toward the volley ball pit. We all noted where he was and then got distracted. A few minutes later someone said "where's James" we looked at the Volley Ball pit and he wasn't there. We glanced around the park and did not see him. Blake started running toward the river and of course we all followed knowing that is where he would be. And we found him sitting by the river throwing rocks in as if nothing was wrong. Very scary moment for us. The next day was Mother's day and Doug already had a gift certificate ready for a child locator. And based on our experience the day before we knew we needed one.
So I found one the next day at a store, tried it out and took it back the next day. It started beeping while James was standing not even 25 ft away in plain sight. That wasn't going to work.
A month later after much research and reading of reviews I found the one I wanted. It was a watch that he wouldn't be able to take off his arm and it also had a sensor if it came off his arm. The only problem was it was out of stock since November of 2008. So we had to go with the next best thing.
The Loc8or Plus. It came with 4 sensors and the loc8or.
Two days before we got this in the mail James was playing out back in his fenced area and I was sitting inside listening to him play and checking on him occasionally. After a few minutes I thought, "James has been pretty quite." So I looked outside. No James, but the fence wasn't messed up anywhere so I assumed he had come inside. I looked through the house and couldn't find him. Luckily I paused to decided where to look next and looked out the front window. In the distance I saw this green shirt holding an orange flag running down the road in front of our house! Our driveway is pretty long and the speed limit is pretty fast on the road, so it was a pretty scary few seconds before I was able to reach him.
Two days later we got this in the mail. We now always have a tag on him, expect if he doesn't have pockets. The wrist bands should be here next week then he will always have one one him. Hopefully we never get into a situation where we have to rely on this again, but based on the past few months I know this is going to come in handy.
